Marilyn (Lynn) Williams, born January 24, 1930 in Mt. Olive, North Carolina to Col. Eugene and Margaret Martin Cox of Mt. Olive, NC. She died and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 27, 2018 in Jacksonville Florida. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert W. Williams Sr. She is survived by their five sons, Toby Williams Jr., Fred Williams, and Glenn Williams of Jacksonville, FL., Greg Williams and his wife, Susan of Severna Park, MD, and Kent Williams and his wife, Shawn of Springfield, VA. Five grandchildren: Jennifer Williams, Carly Williams of Miami, FL, Gwen and her husband, David Yates of Bremen, GA, Jonathan Williams and David Williams of Springfield, VA, and Sarah Williams of Severna Park, MD. Two great grandchildren, Trevor Yates and Dawson Yates of Bremen, GA.
Lynn Williams was also predeceased by her sister Peggy Muse and her husband Charles of the Republic of Panama, and her twin brother, Fred Cox, and his wife, Betty of Atlanta, GA. She is survived by her four nieces, Carol Muse Skinner and her husband David of the Republic of Panama, Cary Cox of Atlanta, GA, Andrea Stephens of Charleston, SC and Susan Wallace Wilson, and her husband James David of Brewton, AL. Four nephews, Kurt Muse and his wife, Anne of Lancaster, Virginia, Mark Muse of Sarasota, FL, and William Wallace and his wife Linda of Atlanta, GA.
Lynn, a member of the 1949 Debutant Club of Atlanta, grew up in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia and attended North Fulton County High School. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1950, where she was a member and President of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. It was there that Lynn met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Williams while a student at the University.
She married Bob Williams of Atlanta on September 2, 1950. They moved often and eventually settled in Jacksonville, FL where they lived in the Granada neighborhood of Jacksonville. Lynn was an accomplished and professional artist for more than fifty years where she applied her many talents in painting murals at South Perrine Elementary (now the Henry E. Perrine Elementary Academy of the Arts) in Miami and Hendricks Avenue Elementary School in Jacksonville, FL. She also painted many backgrounds for the 6th grade operettas when her children were students at Hendricks Avenue Elementary and Pine Forest Elementary schools. She helped Hendricks Avenue Elementary win three consecutive Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge national awards for patriotism in the early 1970s.
In 1975, Lynn became a devoted believer, follower and advocate for JESUS CHRIST, her LORD and SAVIOR. She spent the rest of her life sharing the message of GOD's love and salvation. After her husband's death in 1999, she called the Villages of San Jose her home for almost 19 years.
Both Lynn and her husband were active members of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Florida where they were involved in Florida Cursillo (Team #1) Lay Movement in 1976 and the Florida Happening, a Christian youth evangelical youth movement. When the Episcopal Church split, she and her husband became Anglicans where they became involved in the Anglican 4th Day movement. She was editor of the Diocesan newspaper of "In His Steps" as well as the church paper of All Souls Episcopal Church. She was editor of "A Church That GOD Built" a history of All Souls Church.
A celebration of her life will be held 3:00pm on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at All Souls Anglican Church, 4042 Hartley Road (Off Old St. Augustine Rd) Jacksonville, FL 32257 (904) 268-4600. The Reverends Brook Bachelor and Harold "Whitey" Haugan will be officiating.
