UNDERWOOD- Marjorie Underwood, age 100 years, a former resident of rural Ozark, Illinois, in
Johnson County, passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 25, 2015, at the
home of her daughter in Jacksonville, Florida.
Marjorie was born November 23, 1914 in Norris City, Illinois. She was the
daughter of Aaron Henry Muck and Mae Camelia (Copeland) Muck.
On October 6, 1934, Marjorie was united in marriage to Hubert Lay Underwood.
He preceded her in death on October 17, 1993.
In addition to her husband, father and mother, Marjorie was preceded in death by
brother Donald Muck of Tunnel Hill and sisters Lucille Watson of Carbondale,
and Velma Sites of Thompson Station, Tennessee.

Survivors include: her daughter Janice (Underwood) and son-in-law Donald
Downing of Jacksonville, Florida; her granddaughter Anne living in Maryland; her
great-grandchildren Austin and Alexis; her cousin Grace Alene Becker of Santee,
California; sister-in-law Catherine Muck of Tunnel Hill; nieces Janet Reid of
Knoxville, Tennessee, Margaret Reid of Thompson Station, Tennessee, Nancy
Betts of DeSoto, Patricia Muck of Tunnel Hill; nephews Phillip Watson of
Marietta, Georgia and Dennis Muck and many dear friends.
Marjorie was a graduate of Centralia High School. Marjorie supported her
husband Hubert in their apple orchard farm for many years. She was a dedicated
homemaker and participated in Illinois Home Extension activities.
She worked for many years as an Accredited Records Technician and retired from
the A. L. Bowen Children’s Center in Harrisburg in 1976. She was a member of
the American Association of Medical Librarians.
Marjorie was an active member of the Ozark Baptist Church. She was also a
member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Order of the Eastern
Star. Marjorie enjoyed gardening, home making, travel and reading novels.
Private burial will be in the Wise-Robinson Cemetery, north of Ozark. A
memorial service is scheduled for April 7, 2015, 3pm at the Ozark Baptist Church.
Pastor David Webb will officiate.
