Martha Merlyn Coleman

Martha "Merlyn" Coleman of Mayo, FL passed away on May 18, 2023, peacefully
while sleeping at home at the age of 79 years old.
Merlyn was born to Herman and Doris Hooper in Mayo, FL on September 15,
1943. She went to Lafayette High School and soon after moved to Jacksonville, FL
to attend beauty school. Merlyn made Jacksonville her home after meeting the
love of her life, Earl.
Merlyn was a domestic goddess and spent most of her days caring for her
husband, children, and most of all her beloved grandchildren. Merlyn enjoyed
cooking without recipes, shopping, and traveling. Merlyn and Earl were fortunate
to have twenty years of retirement together. Merlie had a special bond with the
"YaYas" (Paula, Myrna, Barbara, Benita, and Phyllis) since the first grade.
Merlyn is preceded in death by her parents Doris and Herman Hooper and her
husband of 59 years, Earl. She is survived by her son, Ricky (Marcy) Coleman,
daughter Kathy (Dwayne) Chappell, five grandchildren, Kaitlin (Chris) Trueblood,
Kyle (Brooke) Chappell, Rhett (Karla) Coleman, Reiss and Rylee Coleman, and four
siblings, Ben Henry Hooper, Herma Hart, Nona Pearson, and Meki (Owen)
Pearson.
A private celebration of her life will be held with close family. Merlyn will be laid
to rest at Oak Lawn Cemetery Jacksonville, FL with Earl.
