Martha McCrary Hannah
Martha peacefully passed away surrounded by her family Thursday, May 8, 2014. Daughter of Thomas A. McCrary and Jacqueline Smith McCrary, and niece of Mrs. Jeanette Darden, Martha lived many years in Waycross. She was married to James R. Hannah. Martha is remembered fondly by her brothers Tom McCrary (Beth) and Rick McCrary (Denise), her sisters Mary M. Jay (Don) and Virginia M. Johnson (David). Martha was preceded in death by her brother Roger McCrary. Martha is survived by her two daughters, Amy H. Johnson of St. Marys, GA, and Marcy H. Almeida (John) of Danvers, MA. Beloved grandchildren are Maizy Miles, Russell Almeida, and Melinda Almeida.“Aunt Martha” will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Diana (Mike), D’Arcy (Tri), Rich (Amy), Lesley (Todd), Lori (Chris), Leon, Sara (Casey), Anna (John) and Ben. Ms. Hannah was a graduate of Waycross High School (Class of ’66) and Valdosta State College, Bachelor of Science in Education, and Master of Education. She also earned her Doctorate in Occupational Studies, University of Georgia.
While raising her family in Waycross, Martha was active in Waycross Junior Woman’s Club and the Dogwood Garden Club. She was employed as a Real Estate Broker, Designer, and Property Manager. Ms. Hannah was lauded in the Waycross Journal Herald’s feature, “Women of Accomplishment.” She was noted as an area outstanding woman and successful business woman. Ms. Hannah later continued her career with the Georgia Residential Authority and as a Business instructor at Valdosta Technical College. Martha most recently enjoyed living in Fernandina Beach. In her final days, Martha was watched over by the angels of Harts Harbor and Hospice of Northeast Florida.
A private memorial service will follow. In lieu of flowers, friends can make a donation to the
Hospice of Northeast Florida or the National Kidney Foundation.
