Mary Phillips Stephens

Mary Phillips Stephens was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. Mary passed away on July 20, 2021 at age 88, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
She was born to Frank and Paralee Shields on May 3, 1933 in Nantahala, North Carolina. Mary spent all of her childhood in the blue ridge area of the North Carolina mountains. After graduating from high school, Mary moved to Atlanta, Georgia then Jacksonville, Florida where she met her husband, Robert Stephens. Mary had 4 children: Jerry, Mary Ann, Patricia and Samuel.
The simplest pleasures in life brought Mary the most joy. She loved caring for and spending time with her children and family. Mary was skilled at embroidery, crocheting, and quilting. She loved spending time on the water fishing and creating delicious meals for her family. Mary's beautiful smile and pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Robert; two daughters, Mary Ann Proctor (Larry) and Patricia Spraggins (Gary); two sons, Jerry Shields (Martha) and Samuel Phillips; two granddaughters, Brittany Mobley (Christopher) and Megan Evans (Eric); two grandsons, Tyler Shields and Michael Sayles; great grandsons, Eamon Evans, Wyatt Mobley, and Connor Mobley; great granddaughters, Evelyn Evans and Eloise Evans; one brother; two sisters; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two beloved brothers, Dillard and JR; and great grandson, Grayson Mobley.
