Maurice "Mac" Hines, 78, passed away March 8th in Jacksonville, FL with his family by his side. He was born and raised in Portsmouth, VA, and was the son of the late Edgar and Ruth Hines. He was a graduate of St. Paul's High School, Portsmouth, VA. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Bailey Hines; son Michael C. Hines (Jessa), daughter Kiley Bailey; grandchildren Dominic Mackin, Lilly and Juniper Hines; brothers Pete Hines (Angie), Bill Hines; sisters Cathy McCreary and Liz Hines. He leaves behind many loving nephews, nieces, cousins and friends in VA and FL, especially "Kombat" Karandos of Jacksonville. Mac was a Marine, and proud to have served his country in Vietnam and in the Marine Reserves. He worked for the City of Portsmouth and retired from Weller Truck Parts in Jacksonville. He was very active with the Vietnam Veterans of America, the American Legion and, along with others, was a volunteer speaker at various Duval County schools. He was an avid sailor who loved being on the water, was a jokester who loved to laugh and enjoy a good time. A memorial service will be held in Jacksonville at a later date. His ashes will be buried at Jacksonville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc, Chapter 1046, P.O. Box 331322, Jacksonville, FL 32233-1322 or online at vva.org/chapter/vva-chapter-1046, or to the American Legion, Post 88 online at mylegion.org. Naugle Funeral Home in Jacksonville is handling arrangements.
