Mike Walburn
January 10, 1955 – June 9, 2017
Husband, father, brother, uncle, son, neighbor, friend. Visionary architect, builder of dreams and ideas. Thoughtful chef, master of fine cuisine. He was remarkable, creative, smart funny and generous. A story teller that made us burst with laughter, a unique star, a warm bear, and man of God.
Mike would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received a rather unexpected call, a sort of offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time. Job security is exactly 110 percent. His new mission takes him to a wonderful place where he will be sketching, designing and imagining beautiful buildings beyond our imagination. Good food, music, laughter and love are guaranteed. There is an outdoor bar-b-que and bonfire every night. He can surf every day and feel no hip pain. His outside youthfulness now matches his inside joyfulness. He is cruising on a bright red Honda 750 with the wind in his hair. The love he has for family and good friends means more than anything to him and he feels every bit of it even now. He wants us to know that nothing is lost. Every prayer is received. Every effort in his favor and loving memory is full of deep appreciation. He wants us to know that while there is always healing there is not always a cure. However, full restoration is guaranteed and God’s promises are true. Love never fails.
Memorial will be 2:00 June 26th at Beaches United Methodist Church Chapel 325 7th Avenue North, Jacksonville Beach, Florida 32250. Chapel entrance is on 7th Avenue North.
A scholarship fund has been established at Florida Atlantic University College of Architecture for the advancement of architectural arts in the specialty of hand drawing. This will allow students of financial need that exhibit a love and ability in architectural sketching to travel to Italy for inspiration and refinement. Donations can be sent to
