Myrtle Beatrice Buie

Myrtle Beatrice Buie, 99, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully October 26, 2024, just shy of her 100th birthday. She was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Known for her selfless heart and gentle spirit, she touched the lives of everyone she met. She was born in Atkinson County, Georgia on November 23, 1924. She lived a life full of kindness, love, and unshakable resilience. Her door was always open, her table always set, and her arms always ready to embrace anyone in need.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her family, friends, and countless people she helped and cared for. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit and the countless memories of her warmth and kindness will remain with us forever.
She is predeceased by her husband, Curtis Elwood Buie, Sr., her daughter, Libby Schlachter, and her son James DeWayne Buie.
She is survived by her loving children Betty Reynolds, Curtis Buie, Jr. (Sylvia), Debra Bensen (Russell), Stephen Buie (Anna), and her son-in-law, Leo Schlachter. Seven grandchildren Lee Schlachter (Lora), Kelly Gardner (Chris), Jennifer Bensen, Shannan Smith (Paul), Lori Segui (Will), Jessica Amato (Greg), and Jacqueline Bensen (Sean). Nine great grandchildren, Matthew and Jerrett Schlachter, William Segui, Adelaide and Wyatt Amato, Finley Bensen-Franklin, Julianna Gardner, Simon and Genevieve Clark. Countless bonus children and grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as 'Aunt Sis'.
Graveside services will be held Friday, November 1st at 11am at Greenlawn Cemetery, where we will gather to celebrate her remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, we invite donations to Community Hospice & Palliative Care.
