Nancy Avery

Nancy Tomlinson Avery passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 74 on March 4, 2023. She was a co-owner of Bank Barbershop, a staple of downtown Jacksonville, FL for over 40 years. Her skills as a barber and sharp-witted personality kept the business thriving for many years. Nancy was an avid reader and loved novels of all types, but especially epics. Another of her recent loves was Downton Abbey. Funny enough, the grandkids knew Nana would just give them a quick hug and kiss and then send them on their way if they visited Nana's while a Downton Abbey marathon was on. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, Motown music, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and mother JD and Marie (Brown) Tomlinson, her sister Claudia McAfee, her brothers: Fred, Jim, & Jon Tomlinson, and her son Marc Avery. Nancy is survived by her daughter Rachel Barksdale (Cody) and grandchildren Ty & Trace Avery; Ellie, Emmie, and Evie Barksdale; and many nieces and nephews. Our family is grateful to know that Nancy is at peace. Services will be held at the Southside United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Florida on March 25th at 11:00 AM with a reception at the Mudville Grille in St. Nicholas afterward.
