Niculae (Nae) was born in June 1941 to parents Gheorghe and Ioana Popescu in Bucharest Romania. From a young age he had a curiosity and natural talent for technical and mechanical things. He attended a technical high school and the Polytechnic University of Bucharest from which he graduated with a master's degree in mechanical engineering. He then worked for IPIU (Institutul de Proiectari pentru Industria U?oara) as a design engineer, senior engineer and he designed and put into operation mass production lines and machinery for manufacturing consumer products. He was very knowledgeable, straight thinking and dynamic, authored and implemented several inventions, his engineering work was highly appreciated and he received merit awards for his very valuable contributions.
In 1974 he married Maria Elena (Marilena) Stefanescu and they had 2 children, Anita and Theo.
In 1986, due to the communist regime and the political climate in Romania at that time, Nae fled Romania to Yugoslavia and was ultimately sponsored to relocate to the United States. His family joined him in 1987 and they lived in Los Angeles, later moving to Montebello and settling in Glendora CA. It took some time to find engineering work, but over the years he held several positions as a mechanical engineer, designing and improving products. He loved his work, engineering came naturally to him.
Marilena and Nae divorced in 2007 and he relocated to Jacksonville FL where he was offered a Lead Engineer position at Gardeau Ameristeel.
He loved Florida, was very patriotic and strong republican supporter. He met Barbara Lane the two of them lived a very active lifestyle, dancing, walking, church and supporting the republicans. He suffered from a stroke in 2022 which paralyzed his left side and having to rely on a feeding tube for sustenance. Barbara was his biggest cheer leader, supported and advocate, always by his side, never giving up. He lost his fight peacefully on 2/1/24. May he rest in peace.
