Patricia Mathis Atwood passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 6, 2024 after a brief illness. Born in 1928, she had celebrated her 96th birthday with her family just a few weeks ago.
Patricia attended Lee High School and Jacksonville University, where she studied to become an educator. She taught at Englewood and Westside (formerly Forrest) High Schools, as well as at the Kent and Mayport campuses of FSCJ, where she touched the lives of thousands of students during the course of her forty-year career
She was predeceased by her loving husband of sixty-three years, Fred Atwood, and her youngest son, Christopher Lee Atwood. She is survived by her children Gene and Rick, their wives Ruth and Mary; her grandchildren Christopher David Atwood, Nathan DePasquale, and Megan Bradley; and her great-grandchildren Zoey, Violet, Jack, Max, and Jeremiah. She was loved dearly by all and will be sorely missed.
