Patricia "Pat" Howsley Powell
August 5, 1931 — October 16, 2016
Patricia (Pat) Powell peacefully left us to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 16, 2016. She was born in Fort Pierce, Florida, as Patricia Ann Howsley on August 5, 1931.
She is predeceased by her father, Roland Arthur Howsley, and her mother, Nell Blanchard Landers. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Florida, Pat married Donald Patrick Powell and they had two sons: Donald Terrence (Julieann) of DeFuniak Springs, FL, and Andrew Charles (Fran) of Jacksonville, FL. She also has four grandchildren: Stephen Christopher Powell (Sarah) of Dallas, TX; Stephanie Christina Powell of Sebring, FL; Patricia Marie Williams (Lonnie) of Jacksonville, FL; and Sarah Marie Powell. Pat has four great-grandchildren: Jackson, Evelyn, Lillian, and Ruben.
She began working for DeVane Printing Company in the 1960s as the secretary/office manager and eventually became president of the company. Pat has been an active member of Englewood Christian Church since 1979 where she served faithfully over the years as a Sunday school teacher, member and officer of the ladies’ circles, and for over 25 years as treasurer of the Missionary Committee. Being available for people and spreading God’s word have always been an integral part of her life.
In that vein, Pat has served throughout the years in various capacities in the ABWA (American Business Women’s Association); Civic Roundtable of Jacksonville; and her passion the Pilot Club, including two terms as president. The Pilot Club has raised money through various activities such as the yearly Antique Show and a garage sale. The raised funds are given back to the community to help make the community a better place. One of the first outreach programs in 1979 was working with Shirley Doyle to help setup the offices for the beginning of the Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring Hospice of Northeast Florida, where Pat spent her final days. Many, many organizations and groups have benefitted from the help given by the Pilot Club.
The viewing and funeral will both be at Englewood Christian Church on Barnes Road on Saturday, October 22, 2016. The viewing is between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.; the funeral will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Pall bearers are Terry Powell, Andy Powell, Chris Powell, Charles Moseley, Gene Worth, and Pete Peters.
In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Pilot House Scholarship Research Foundation or to Claire Dore, missionary, of the Open Door Libraries Budapest Christian Library (checks can be made and sent to Englewood Christian Church referencing the missionary/mission and they will be forwarded to the organization) would be appreciated.
