Philip Samuel Mendelson unexpectedly passed away on 2/20/23 at the age of 75 from complications of open heart surgery. He had resided in Jacksonville, Florida for the last five years, and prior to that, lived in Naples, Florida since 2002. He was originally from Chicago and was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan.
He was married to Joyce (Jewell) Mendelson for fifty-four years and enjoyed life. Traveling in their RV and riding around in their MGB Roadster gave him great joy.
They had two daughters: Lisa (Michael) Moklak of Villa Park, Illinois and Jennifer Mendelson (Jonathan Ruda), of Jacksonville, Florida, and three grandchildren Michael Moklak, Matthew Moklak, and Emma Avros. Phil is survived by his brother, Alan Mendelson of Olympia Fields, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Richard and Viola Henrietta (Nelson) Mendelson, a sister, Dorothy Mendelson, a brother, Donald Mendelson, and several cousins, aunts, and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25th at Naugle Funeral Home, 1203 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday after 1:30 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America or the Fisher House Foundation.
