Philip Thomas White passed away peacefully on February 10, 2015 surrounded by family. He was born in Gainesville, Florida on October 28, 1947 to Graham Vincent and Florence Louisa White.
Husband to Morgan MacDonell White. Daddy to Bailey Dean (Mitchell) and Mary Ashley Hamburg (Corey). Granddaddy "G" to Cash Kennedy (Mary's son) and Vera Camellia (Bailey's daughter). Brother to Marvel Hugh (Deva Parnell), Eileen Benner (Anna Mayers) and Jeanie Mackey (Tom). Uncle and Friend to many.
Philip grew up in Jacksonville Beach. He attended Fletcher and Bishop Kenny High Schools, Florida State University and University of North Florida. Philip served in the US Navy. He was stationed in Guantanamo Bay and Key West, where he translated Cuban radio and owned a landlocked boat. He was an accomplished CPA.
Philip was known for his dry wit, his conservative view of politics, his tidy haircut, his infinite stubbornness. He relished Flannery O'Connor, butter pecan ice cream, a grey cat named Mini, the Moody Blues and the 1812 Overture. He appreciated a good steak but his favorite meal could be purchased at Gate Gas station: a hot dog, a packet of hot peanuts and a can of Coke. He loved shopping for new cars, drinking black coffee, attending Mass, and mostly being with his girls and his grand babies. He was wholly his own person and we loved him so.
A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church on Monday, February 15 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Catholic Charities. Arrangements by Naugle Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1203 Hendricks Avenue Jacksonville, FL (904) 396-1611
