Renn Stancil Hinton, 80, of Palatka, FL, died peacefully at home with her children on December 26, 2024. Renn was diagnosed with ALS in May 2004 and bravely fought the disease for 20+ years. While Renn lost most of her ability to write and type, she retained the ability to speak.
Daisy Renn Stancil was born December 5, 1944, in Ocala, FL, to Ethel Octavia Hales and George Ralph Stancil. She graduated from Ocala High School in 1963 and earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Early Childhood Education from the University of Florida in Gainesville where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. Renn taught school in Glendale, AZ, and at Mosley Elementary in Palatka.
In 1969, while teaching at Mosley, she met her husband Bobby, an industrial engineer with Hudson Paper Mill. Renn and Bobby married at the annual Stancil Family Reunion on August 22, 1971, in Johnston County, NC. Renn was devoted to her family and organized the Stancil Family Reunion where she welcomed all relatives and friends.
Her interests included: horseback riding, stained glass, sewing, cooking, baking, gardening, painting, drawing, knitting/crocheting, reading, writing, and genealogy. Renn kept in touch with an extensive network of relatives.
Renn was a lifetime member of Disciples of Christ congregations at: First Christian in Ocala, FL; Erlanger Christian in Erlanger, KY; Beargrass Christian in Louisville, KY; First Christian in Wheeling, WV; Parkway Christian in Davie, FL; First Christian in Pensacola, FL; and back to her home church where she grew up at First Christian in Ocala in 2002.
She volunteered in various roles including: Sunday School teacher, Children's Church organizer and leader, Church Camp counselor & director, 4-H leader, Girl Scout leader, and preschool teacher. She worked for the U.S. Census - 1990 in Kentucky and 2000 in Florida's Panhandle. In 2001, Renn became a Florida certified court mediator. She mediated pre-trial resolutions in Escambia and Putnam counties and worked with Putnam judge Elizabeth Morris until 2018.
She is survived by children Darcee Sams (Jimmy) of Milton, FL; Kip Austin Hinton (Amalia Ortiz) of San Antonio, TX; Ty Alexander Hinton of Palatka, FL; Brent Ashley Hinton of Asheville, NC; Coree Anne Hinton of Palatka, FL; brother Harold Stancil (Kim Brown) of Ocala, FL; sisters-in-law Alice Marie Hinton of Frisco, TX; Becky Stancil of Ocala, FL; nephews & nieces Ted Schore (Jean) of Ocala, FL; Alex Schore (Don Sandola Jr.) of Plantation, FL; Stephanie DellaVecchia (Matt) of Wellington, FL; Karen Stancil (Ken Capps) of Ocala, FL; Suzanne Stancil (John Svercek) of Ocala, FL; Kathryn Riechert (Scott Whitten) of Savannah, GA; John Stancil (Jennifer) of Madison, FL, and numerous great nieces & great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph & Ethel, husband of 43 years Bobby Hinton, stepson Jay Hinton, sister Georgeanne Schore and brother Hale Stancil.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. January 25, 2025, at First Christian Church, 1908 East Fort King St., Ocala, FL 34471.
