Richard Earl Doerr went to his heavenly home on August 8, 2023, at the age of 77. Richard was born in Mason, Texas, on July 2, 1946, and grew up in San Antonio. He was a lifelong Longhorn fan and a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in mechanical engineering. While attending UT, Richard met and married his wife, Teresa Ann Kaatz, on Feb. 6, 1971.
After graduation in 1971, Richard worked in Austin in automotive research. An opportunity with Conoco in coal mining research moved the couple to Ponca City, Oklahoma, 1973, where his daughter, Karen, was born. While in Oklahoma, Richard worked on the development of a slurry system to transport coal out of coal mines. In 1980, he and his family moved to Morgantown, West Virginia, to continue work on the slurry project. The family welcomed son, John, in 1981. In 1987, he moved the family to Middleburg, Florida, where he worked in research and development and in titanium mining. Richard retired in 2002 with 31 years and more than 20 patents under his belt for his various employers.
He loved working on cars, woodworking, reading all the Civil War books he could find, building model airplanes, watching Jeopardy and doing crossword puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert Earl Doerr and Maybelle Claire Grote Doerr; a brother, Robert Douglas Doerr; and a sister, Sue Karel Doerr.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Teresa; a daughter Karen Latuso (Steve); son John Doerr (Ashley) and granddaughter, Beatrice.
