Robert Marion Gipson, Sr., known affectionately by many names, Bob, Gip, Dad, Brother, Uncle and Poppy passed away peacefully in his home on January 25th. Born on March 9, 1929 in Augusta, Arkansas. Robert lived a remarkable life defined by wisdom, kindness and service to his family, friends and community.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 60 joyful years, Marion Gipson; his son, Robert Gipson, Jr and all his siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Judy Reynolds; granddaughter, Nicole Weaver; grandson-in-law, Patrick Weaver and great-grandchildren, Zoe Weaver and Maverick Weaver, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love and dedication.

A proud graduate of Lyman High School in Winter Park, FL in 1947. Robert earned the honor of salutatorian through a coin flip with the valedictorian, a story that reflected his humor and humility. He began his career at Western Electric Co; then Southern Bell, which would later become Bell South where he demonstrated exceptional leadership over 42 years before retiring.

Robert's life was filled with hobbies and passions that brought him immense joy. He loved Christ, boating, fishing, cruising, golfing and above all spending time with his family. A man of service, he gave back to his community in countless ways. He was a founder of the Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament, where he volunteered generously and of the Captains Club, which brought together fellow boating enthusiasts. He also served on the board of Florida Telco which later became 121 Financial Credit Union and took an active role in the merger with VyStar Credit Union. He was also awarded the distinguished 33rd degree of the Scottish Rite for his exemplary service reflecting his dedication to Freemasonry.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on February 6, 2025 at Southside Methodist Church, 3120 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL, 32207.

Robert's wisdom, humor and compassion left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed but remembered always with love and gratitude.
