Robert Mobley, 88 of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, in Jacksonville, Florida. Bob was born to Annie Ruth and Albert Mobley on January 7, 1935 in Omega, Georgia. The family later moved to Jacksonville where Bob graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. He then joined the U. S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After his discharge Bob used his GI Bill benefits to attend the University of Florida and graduated with an accounting degree. Later on Bob went back to school at the University of North Florida and got his master's degree.
Bob worked for several years at the local paper mill, where his dad had also worked. He was a CPA in private business. Later Bob went to work for Gate Petroleum and liked it so much he stayed for 35 years, retiring when he hit age 87. Anybody who met Bob quickly learned that he loved to talk to people. Maybe that is why he enjoyed working at Gate so much - there were always people coming into the store he could talk with for a few minutes as they made their purchases.
After a long illness Bob peacefully passed away at home with his wife Edith by his side. Bob and Edith married in 1959 during his Christmas break from college. Bob is also survived by their two children, Kathy (Jimmy) and Marc (Sherry); 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and cousins, brother-in-law Gene Green and two sisters-in-law, Mary Fraser and Mary Brueshaber.
Bob was predeceased in death by his parents, Annie Ruth & Albert, his sister Joan and his brother Wayne. Also, his sister-in-law Verna Hunt and her husband C. A., and two brothers-in-law, Jim Fraser and George Brueshaber.
The church has always been an important part of Bob's life. He was very devoted and served as a deacon at Southside Baptist for many years.
