Robert A. "Bob" Petty passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024, at the age of 91. Bob was born in Jacksonville Beach, Florida on January 3, 1933, to William and Edith Petty. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Marguerite, Annette, Dorothy and his brother Bill. Bob is survived by: his loving wife of 70 years, Jane, his daughter Wanda and his son Robert, his grandchildren: Kristen (Micah), Ryan (Mariel), Caroline (Justin) and Michael (Melissa) and his great grandchildren: Keaton, Kennedy, and Daniel. He is also survived by his brother Don (Winnie) and many nieces and nephews.
Bob graduated from Landon High School in 1951 and attended Jacksonville University. He served in the United States Marine Corps and then began his career with Southern Bell until retiring as a manager in Facilities Planning in 1989 after 34 years of service.
Bob loved the Lord and was an active member of San Jose Baptist Church having served as a Deacon. He also volunteered for the church disaster relief program and went on several mission trips.
Bob was a very skilled craftsman and he used his many talents to help family, friends, neighbors and his church. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family including many trips to the mountains of North Carolina. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed spending time outside in his yard.
Bob's family would like to thank the staff at Taylor Care Center and Community Hospice for the kindness and care he received. They would also like to thank his church family for all their love and support.
A celebration of life will begin at 11am on Thursday May 30, 2024, at San Jose Baptist Church. A private interment of his ashes will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida or San Jose Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Florida.
