In loving memory of Rodney Jerome Smith who went to be with the Lord on February 8th 2016 at the age of 62. He fought a courageous battle with lung cancer that ended up taking his body but never his spirit, smile, or soul.
Rodney was born on June 26, 1953 in Greensboro, NC to the late William Cecil and Pauline Mae (Thomas) Smith. He is survived by his loving wife Jennean Anderson Smith; three beautiful daughters, Angie (Scott) Miller, Amy Smith, Angela Culpepper; two brothers, William (Mae) Smith of San Jose, CA and Robert (Rebecca) Smith of Old Fort, NC; seven grandchildren, Bobby (Renee) Raines, Brice Raines, Corey White, Haley Culpepper, Elijah Wilkie, Kylee Miller, Ethan Rodney Smith; great-granddaughter Peyton Raines; nieces; Carol, Michelle, Camille, Rhonda (predeceased); nephews, Brian and Ryan; two aunts, Helen Thomas and Sylvia Lewis; lifelong friends, David Clarke, Kevin Sullivan, Robert Lanier; dear neighbors Jack and Nancy Foit; and a host of cousins, extended family and friends. In addition to his magnificent family, Rodney leaves behind his two furry and faithful canine companions, Bear and Abbey.
In 2011, after 33 years of dedicated service, Rodney retired from the City of Jacksonville Fleet Management Division as a supervisor, he was nicknamed “The Captain”.
His passions in life were his family, friends, fishing and food. He loved life, music, getting some sun, the beach, grilling with friends and family, and enjoyed fishing every chance he could get. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Rodney’s memorial service and a celebration of his life will be held on February 20th in the Naugle Funeral Home chapel from 2-5 pm.
