Rosabelle Vivian Judge was born Sept. 28, 1925 in Jacksonville, FL. She went home to be with her Lord on Aug. 9, 2023. Rose was the eldest of four children born to Samuel and Madeline Judge. She graduated from Stanton High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree that focused on studies in business, human relations, languages and interior decorating. Rose was fluent in both French and German.
Rose had a distinguished, 50-year career in the federal government, serving in a number of key roles for the United States Army Europe (USAREUR) in Germany. Most notably, Rose was the architect of the USAREUR Federal Women's Program. She not only led its implementation, but also expanded its scope to encompass and recognize the concerns and contributions of women in the military and also family members.
During her career, Rose lent her considerable leadership skills to various organizations, including the German Women's Club of Darmstadt, Germany, Board of Directors, North Atlantic Girl Scouts, and the Rhein-Neckar Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, where she was a past president.
Rose also received numerous professional and civic honors and recognition. The German-American Press Club commended her for being a speaker with the courage of her convictions who forthrightly addressed sensitive issues. She was also honored as Woman of the Year by the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.
Rose accepted the Lord early in her life. After returning to the states, she united with Riverside Baptist Church (now Riverside Church at Park and King) in 2004. She was actively involved in her church and was well loved and respected by all who knew her. She faithfully served as treasurer, deacon, Sunday School teacher and Scripture reader.
Rose was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita Judge-Otey, and brothers Jacob and Samuel Judge. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children in the Lord, Jim and Reba Moore, Jacksonville; nieces Althea Jones and Belinda Otey, Jacksonville; great niece Latasha S.J. Littleton and great nephew Anthony A. Littleton Jr., Jacksonville; beloved cousins, including Natalee Addison (Raymond), Teaneck, New Jersey; and many other relatives and dear friends.
