Salvatore "Sam" Caputo died at Mayo Clinic on December 31, 2014 in Jacksonville, FL at the age of 84. Mr. Caputo is survived by his wife, Marie Caputo (Muto), his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Rick Overmyer of Golden, CO, his son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Susan Caputo of Bartlett, IL, his grandchildren and their spouses, Christie and William French, Jennie Overmyer, Lisa Caputo, Adam and Maria “Lila” Caputo, and Nick and Jennie Caputo, and 6 great-grandchildren Sammy, Enzo, Aiden, Liam, Lucas and Isabel. Sam was born April 18, 1930 in Rende, Italy to his parents, Luigi and Teresa (LoCelso) Caputo. He came to America in 1954.He married Marie Muto in 1956 and moved to the Chicago suburbs. He worked for Sears in Oak Brook, IL and Erday’s in Geneva, IL until he retired at the age of 70. He enjoyed fishing, eating exotic foods, traveling, house remodeling/building and being with his family especially the (great)grandchildren. He would spend the colder months in his beloved Florida with his wife enjoying the beaches. Sam was a cancer survivor for 7 years, which he accredited to “The Doctors (Shen, Charles and Jatol), and the nurses at Mayo Clinic, my beautiful wife, Marie, and God.” The family requests that memorial gifts be designated for cancer research at Mayo Clinic in loving memory of Salvatore Caputo.
