Our family is mourning the passing of one who was very loved.
Her smile radiated love, grace and peace. She loved many and was loved by many.
Born Sharon Ann Smith, August 4, 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida to Eva Mae Masters Smith and James Smith. She was a devoted Catholic, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend.
Sharon attended Assumption Catholic School followed by Bishop Kenny High School. She was extremely reverent in her Catholic faith and loved the Lord deeply.
Sharon fell deeply in love and married Lesley M. Bennett, Jr. on April 11, 1970 and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. They built a wonderful life together and were often seen strolling around their neighborhood hand in hand.
Sharon and Lesley had four children, Candace Bennett Singleton (Jon), Adam Bennett (Layla), Matthew Bennett (deceased), and Andrew Bennett (DeDe).
Sharon was a devoted mother who had individual, special, bonds with each of her children and fiercely loved them unconditionally. Candace, Adam, Andrew and, her Angel in Heaven, Matthew, were her greatest achievements. Lesley, her children and grandchildren were the most important things in her life and whom she protected and loved intensely. Her home was always a place of comfort.
Sharon, otherwise known as Mema, so loved her two grandchildren, Brandon Singleton and Emily Singleton. She was in their lives daily and was the best grandmother any child could ask for. Mema was playful and always full of hugs, little kisses and joy.
Sherry, to her younger siblings, Denzel Smith (Ruthie), Kathy Smith Lindstrom (Peter) and Karen Smith Thomas (David-deceased) was always a shining example of loyalty and love. She was an exceptional Aunt to her nephews and nieces, Scott, Ashley, Sara, Kristina, and Michael, frequently having them, along with her own children, all around her in the kitchen baking her favorite chocolate cake.
We will miss our wife, mother, grandmother and sister, but we have so many wonderful memories that we hold in our hearts of the incredible woman and blessing she was to each of us.
We will have a Funeral Mass at Assumption Catholic Church at 9:30am on Thursday, April 27, 2023. The family will continue to The National Cemetery for interment.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association and/or to Hospice Vitas Jacksonville
