Shirley Virginia Gross was born on August 27th, 1939 in a little place called Nashville, Georgia. Her parents were Homer Exum and Ora Lee Exum. They were poor folks with big hearts, and also had three other daughters; Janelle, Josephine, and Audrey. They were all great kids, each of whom went their own ways, but stayed close enough to spend some holidays together.
Shirley was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was always there to do what she could for her children; Teresa, Sandy, Cheryl , Ricky and Ronnie. Later in life she married a Kentucky man by the name of John Elisha Gross, who took on the fatherly role of helping her raise the children into their young adulthood. Johnny owned a monument business, and when he suddenly and unexpectedly passed away, Shirley stood strong while having to fend for herself and took the company over to run for the next 30 years. She rose up to be a wonderful owner and came to exceed our Johnny's sales in the company. As the years went by and her health steadily declined, it eventually came time for her to give up the business she loved, and she did so with much reluctance.
Shirley was strong at heart, spirit and soul. She loved her Lord and Saviour, would frequently read her bible and loved her preaching shows. She also had an affinity for reading books, doing crossword puzzles, and drawing. Christmas season was her favorite time of the year and she loved decorating her home. She also loved country and gospel music. Shirley had a great relationship with God and will be with him until we see her again. We will miss you mom and never forget you! We love you today, tomorrow, and always and your legacy will live on.
