Steven 'Steve' Edward Mixer, 63, fell asleep in death on Sunday April 7th, 2024, in Jacksonville Florida. Steven was born in Thomasville North Carolina on January 15th 1961 to Patricia and Carl Mixer. Steven was the second of three children. His early years were spent in Mooresville and other parts of North Carolina. As a teenager he lived in Jacksonville, FL and Charleston, SC with his mother and siblings. Steven attended R.B. Stall High School in Charleston, SC where he was known for riding his motorcycle and working on his friends motorcycles in his spare time. It was there, in 1979, that he met Sandy Simms, the love of his life.
Steve and Sandy married in 1980 in Charleston, SC. They moved to Florida and they welcomed their son Daniel in 1981. Steve worked as a licensed Tankerman on various tugboats pushing barges down the St Johns River. He later developed skills in the trade of being a fire alarm and life safety equipment installer and technician. It was a profession that he was proud to do for more than 18 years. Steve had acquired many valuable skills and much knowledge throughout his life which he gladly shared generously with his family and friends. He always gave 110% no matter how big or small the job. In 2010 Steve and Sandy moved back to Charleston SC temporarily to care for Sandy's ailing parents. They returned to Florida in 2014, this time to the Palatka area near the same river that Steve fell in love with during his time working on tugboats in the early 80's.
Throughout his life Steve was a loving, generous and caring man. He loved working with his hands, cooking, music, gardening and animals of all kinds. He was especially fond of his two dogs, Suki and Hunter and his three cats, Mr. Butters, Little Sylvie and Mia. All who knew Steve treasure a special memory of him: working on motorcycles and other things, making homemade kimchi, his meticulous attention to detail, playing with his grandchild, growing his own vegetable garden, his love of puzzles, the pranks he played, his passion for model building, his faith and his love for God, his drive to help any broken person or animal that he came across, his culinary skills, his love of spicy food, his encyclopedic knowledge, and his unwavering love for his family.
Steven is preceded in death by his father Carl Mixer and his grand-niece Destiny O'Berry.
Steve is survived by his loving wife Sandra Mixer; his son Daniel Mixer, daughter-in-law Danielle Mixer, his granddaughter Abigail Mixer; his mother Patricia Roberts; his siblings Eric Mixer and Tammie Sloan, his niece Nikki Sloan and his great niece Kylynn Davis.
This warm and gentle bear of a man will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends, and for his appreciation for God's creations. We are all comforted by the knowledge that he lives in Gods memory, and that we will be reunited with him in Paradise.
