A mother, a sister, and a friend, Suzanne Sweat Abad was a strong, empathetic, and kind woman. She passed away peacefully in the afternoon sun on May 1st, 2024 at Baptist Medical Hospital's inpatient Community Hospice center, surrounded by family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bettye and Morris Sweat, and her brother, Harold Sweat.
Suzanne was born on a cool November evening in 1962. She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and went to Sandalwood High School. In her late teens, she joined the Air Force for around a year, leaving to give birth to her firstborn, Rick Sweat. Raising her child as a single mother, she worked hard at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in several positions for over a decade. She would go on to marry a high school classmate, Gregorio Abad, whom she met at a class reunion followed shortly by leaving her work and moving to the state of Georgia where she would give birth to her second child, AJ Abad, cherishing her second child in equal measure to her first. For around 17 years, she lived in Georgia full-time, until her mother's failing health required her to return to Florida.
She loved gardening, baking, and writing. But most of all, over all else, she loved her children. She cared so very deeply about them and raised them to the best of her ability. She spent over forty years of her life being a wonderful mother, teaching empathy and kindness to her children.
Her life has touched many, by being an amazing friend, a caring mother, an inspiration to her children, and a mother figure to her children's friends. She is survived by her children, Rick Sweat and AJ Abad, as well as her sister, Linda Gerth.
A funeral service will be held on May 11th, 2024 in Naugle Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11 AM, and the service will begin at noon. Family and friends are welcome to attend the celebration of this wonderful woman's life. The family requests instead of traditional sets of flowers, to either send potted plants for a garden planted in her honor or to donate to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance or Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center.
