On the evening of March 31, 2022, Valerie Wild passed away peacefully of natural causes. Valerie was being visited and comforted by family members at Dolphin Pointe Health Care in Jacksonville, FL at the time of her passing. Valerie was 81 years old.
Valerie was born June 13, 1940, in Maidstone, Kent, England to Harry and Joyce Peters.
Valerie caught the eye of a young sailor, Duane Wild, at a dance hall near her hometown. The two married in 1961 and remained inseparable until his death in 2021.
Valerie followed her beloved husband to Wisconsin to meet his family. She quickly became close to his sister, Beverly. Valerie credits some of her cooking skills to Aunt Bev. Valerie did not stay in Wisconsin too long as her husband's naval career took him throughout the States and to Guam. Once he retired from the Navy, they settled in Jacksonville, Florida.
Valerie was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved cooking, reading, gardening and antiquing. She received the Kovel's Antiques & Collectibles book every Christmas Eve and would pore over it for hours. Valerie opened a small antique stall, DuVal Antiques, with her husband. They loved shopping at church and garage sales for their inventory.
Valerie loved being a grandmother (Nanny) and was so loved by her grandchildren. Nanny always had treats for her four grandchildren. She made special meals and many baked goods for them. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was often the life of the party!
Valerie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Duane Wild; and her older sister, Pamela (Luther) Williams.
Valerie is survived by her sister, Glenda (Clive) Dawes; sons, Mark (Vicky) and Scott (Jill); grandchildren: Caitlin, William, Erin and Andrew; and her dog Buddy.
A memorial service will be held at Naugle Funeral Home, located at 1203 Hendricks Avenue in Jacksonville, Florida on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 9:30 am.
