Born August 15 1920 in St Louis Missouri to parents Charles M and Caroline M Vogel, Virginia grew up in an age when household deliveries such as coal for heating, block ice for refrigeration and milk were delivered by horse drawn wagons. Her life spanned twelve decades, seeing the current age when deliveries of any item wished is ordered in seconds with hand held devices.
Virginia met her future husband a few months after Pearl Harbor as Lamar was stationed at Jefferson Barracks in St Louis after enlisting in the Army. They were married six months later in November of 1942.
Raising five children, Virginia entered training as a laboratory technician at St. Luke's Hospital at the age of 43. She worked in Microbiology at St Luke's for 20 years, rising to be the supervisor of the department. She was a tireless worker and always stayed fit, following a low carb diet decades before the concept became popular.
Virginia and Lamar were founding members of San Jose Catholic Church. In her later years, she volunteered extensively at her church, continuing to serve as a lector and eucharistic minister into her early 90s.
All who knew Virginia were impacted by her and certainly never forgot her. She was willing to help any and everyone who needed it. She was an outstanding member of the Greatest Generation, and will be greatly missed.
