Walter Robinson Davis, Jr., was born October 5, 1922 to Walter Robinson Davis and Pearl Folsom Davis in Marianna, Florida. He passed away peacefully at 96 years of age on May 10, 2019. He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Ruth Bridwell Davis; his sisters Mary Elizabeth Davis, Evelyn Davis Tavel, Pearl Davis Peacock and brothers Charles Davis, James Davis and Floyd Davis. Walter is survived by his children Walter R. Davis, III (Rob), Gwendolyn R. Beasley, John Paul Davis, Edward E. Davis and Richard B. Davis (Brad). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Marianna High School in 1940 and joined the Army/Air Force in February 1941. He served in World War II and stayed in the Reserves until retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel. In 1955 he went to work for the State of Florida and retired after 29 years. His position with the state was Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement for the Beverage Department. He loved his antique cars and belonged to 3 car clubs. He stayed busy with the Lakeland, FL Lions Club and was an active member of the College Heights Methodist Church in Lakeland.
Walter was loyal and faithful to his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all those who came to know him. If you so choose in lieu of flowers please donate to Hospice.
