William "Roy" Bowens Jr., 67, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away Saturday, October 5th, 2024, at Baptist Beaches Hospital. Roy or "Trouble," as he was affectionately known by family and friends (if you called him anything other than that, he would not listen), was born in Jacksonville, FL to William Roy Bowens Sr. and Dorothy (Dot) McKenzie. During his youth, Roy's family moved to Georgia where he would attend Tompkins High School in Savannah. He would later meet the love of his life, Harriett Billie (Burger) Bowens. Roy and Harriett exchanged nuptials on November 27th, 1998 in St. Marys, GA and later welcomed their daughter, Emily Worthe Bowens, into the world. To Roy, Emily was also known as "Mimi" and "Baby Girl."
Roy's precious daughter, Emily, was his pride and joy. He often said to her, "You are the best thing that ever happened to me" and he meant it with his heart and soul. Roy had a successful career in logistics/transportation; he worked many years in this business and, ultimately, opened his own company "JSP Logistics, Inc." where he and his partner, Jeff Provow, worked tirelessly for the last 18 years. Roy was an avid Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, and NASCAR fan (and occasional Jacksonville Jaguars fan). He enjoyed collecting classic automobiles for restoration; his prized 1969 Cherry Red Cougar Convertible was just recently completed after years and years of patiently waiting for the final reveal. Overall, he could be somewhat of an enigma, at times... you could rarely get a good read of what exactly was going on in that head of his - but to those that loved him, we all know who he was... and we all, will miss him forever.
Roy is preceded in death by his father, William R. Bowens Sr., his mother, Dorothy McKenzie, and his sister, Pam Harrison. Roy is survived by his loving spouse, Harriett Bowens, adoring daughter, Emily Worthe Bowens, sister, Sherry Craddock Miller (Gary), brother, James Benjamin Bowens, step-father, James McKenzie, many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Roy is also survived by a loving team of coworkers and drivers... "10/5, good buddy."
A Celebration of Roy's Life will be held at 12pm on Monday, October 14th, 2024, at Naugle Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Florida with a 2pm reception that will follow at Mavi Waterfront Bar and Grill (2309 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250).
