William Leroy Weeks

William Leroy Weeks, age 59, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018 as a result of injuries sustained in a tragic accident in Jacksonville, Florida.
Born in Enterprise, Alabama and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Bill attended Holiday Hill Elementary School, Landon Junior High School, and Englewood High School. He graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor's Degree in English. He worked as a Human Resources Specialist in the health care and social services industries, most recently at River Region Human Services.
Bill was well known and highly respected as a tireless activist for the local LGBTQ community. As a founding member of the Coming Out Monologues Jacksonville, (a local story telling project) Bill served as a cast member, a story coach and as part of the production crew. He effortlessly ensured that everyone he encountered felt safe, welcomed, loved, valued, seen and heard over the course of his seven year tenure with the project.
Bill was an avid writer with a sharp sense of humor and an uncanny ability to weave fascinating stories based on such mundane events as a visit to Starbucks. He authored an ongoing blog (catzenspace.com) and co-authored the book Historic Homes of Florida's First Coast. Bill was also a talented photographer, who enjoyed photographing a wide range of subjects.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Clarence Leroy Weeks and LaVelle Crumpler. He is survived by his beloved life partner of more than forty years, Joseph Ray Huffman; his sister and her husband, Donna Weeks Aro and Larry Aro; his niece and her husband, Ryann and Jason Cox, and their children Regan, Paige and Colby.
Bill will also be greatly missed by his extended family, as well the many friends and loved ones who mourn his loss; a loss which is amplified by the countless connections he made with others, and the enduring positive impact he made on the many lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on the afternoon of Saturday, May 12th from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at WJCT, 100 Festival Park Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida.
